Today is the 8th of January 2012 ……….. my sister Barbara’s birthday which is special, ‘because Barbara is special,’ but besides being Barbara’s birthday it’s also the day we are leaving for a three week holiday in South Africa, our first visit in seven years. As we were driving past a Shanty Town in Port Elizabeth this little Church caught my eye. We celebrate New Year on the African Queen as a social gathering  …….. we eat, we drink, we sing, we dance and we watch fireworks to mark the incoming year !! Christmas 2011 ………. It’s Christmas Eve and there is a bleak cold wintery feel about the weather, quite different from last year when the earth was covered in a blanket of snow. Winter ‘Weekend Cruise’ aboard the African Queen on the 9th – 11th December. Earlier that same week there were 55 mile an hour winds, some trees had been uprooted in the area,  I was praying the weather would improve,  since we had had a bad experience on the African Queen in strong winds before.
